After dreaming about visiting for about a decade I finally got to see Nikki’s tarot garden. It felt like a pilgrimage walking around her magical sculptures. The way in which they unapologetically take up space yet feel intimate at the same time is beyond beautiful.

Frieze 2023 highlights. My phone sadly died half way through so this is mostly from the main hall. I loved the range of materials and particularly enjoyed seeing so many female artists this year. 🎉

Just visited @newstreetgrill_oldbengalbar and saw my painting is still up! Commissioned by curator @lcowpertwait for @conranandpartners about 11 years ago. Back then I was working with stand oil to build glazes to trap light which is great irl but a pain to capture on camera. Fascinating to see this was an early exploration that would lead to working with glass now. Wonderful closing drinks for La Danse this week. Feeling very greatfull for such a wonderful opportunity to work on a large piece of public art. It had been originally planned to be up for a month but was extended to 7! Inspired by the Nikki St Phalle ‘Nana’ sculptures the painting is a celebration of femininity and resilience. Part of a series of digital deities I am working on. Made by layering glass that has been hand cut , they are imagined relics, fusing past, present and future feminine forms.

Today’s work in progress, I started work on these gilded hands last year. Hopefully it’s almost there now…..

It’s always great seeing works on paper framed. I don’t necessarily draw preparatory sketches but I paint a lot on paper. I love the immediacy and freedom it offers.

Finally finished this one, it’s a nightmare to document but happy with how it turned out. Move through them. Oil, flashe, pigment on canvas. 180x150cm

Sketching day today. 🖌️🖌️Drawing always has to be in colour, as it sets the tone for the figures I’m imagining. Taking inspiration from the monumental Athena statue in Tennessee, I’m working a series of modern day female deities.

Back in the studio! Easter was great but happy to be back painting 🎨

2022 look back… Thankfull to @tfacuk @lefrancbourgeoisofficiel @londongraphiccentre to help me realise a large scale painting that’s been in my head for some time. And to all the visitors that sent such lovely compliments, it was not just my largest but my most public work and I hadn’t anticipated so many strangers saying such lovely things. Even the angry man who told me if thatcher hadn’t scuppered this plans to study art he’d have made a better version! Special shout out the amazing @stephanienpartistcurator who is such a wonderful supporter of artists. To @allia_impact & Pivot Project for granting funding at a much needed time! The studio visitors that bought my art, I’m still some way from sustaining myself by selling art but I’m always touched when people want to live with my work in their homes. To the @courtauld for offering my the opportunity to talk to adults & children about how amazing your collection is! I can’t wait to plan a creative activity for the Peter Doig exhibition. And this year I got an awesome studio buddy 🐶

The super talented @tomcarterldn braved the freezing temperatures to document some new works. 🥶🥶

First successful large piece out of the kiln that didn’t break 🙌🙌🙌 still needs tweaking and don’t love the colour shift but works on this scale with glass just take a lot of trial and error to get right. Luckily @warmglassuk had a sale on so I’m restocked for more experiments.

This 1x1m painting is a study for a large piece I’m working on. There is something quite magical about the way bare aluminium can animate an image of a body. It’s also so sensitive to it’s surroundings. It changes tone depending on the type of light shining and acts as a blurry mirror of the room.

This is the last week to see my mega painting La Danse @londongraphiccentre with Flashe paint. If you are in town please check it out. Big thanks to @lefrancbourgeoisofficiel and @tfacuk for making this happen.

I’ve been watching a 1973 production of Not I by Samuel Beckett on repeat in the studio. It’s a woman’s monologue set on a stage with a hole cut out where only the actress’s lips can be seen.
